Era Updates 10/26

SWGoH: What Overcharge, Era Arena and Training Mode Mean for Your Daily Grind

Posted on October 28, 2026October 28, 2026 by ljcool110

We have talked before that Galaxy of Heroes had turned into a scripted hamster wheel, a game that keeps asking you to do the same things again rather than anything new. On October 27, EA Capital Games posted the most detailed look yet at the three systems meant to change how Eras play: Overcharge, Era Arena and Training Mode.

None of these are brand new ideas. All three were teased in the April 27 community update alongside Loaned Units and Cantina 2.0. What’s new is the rulebook. There’s still no release date, so treat this as what’s coming rather than what’s live.

The short version

  • Overcharge: you pick stats for Era Units and Loaned Units directly and can respec for free at any time. Mods stay in the game for everything outside the Era.
  • Era Arena: a new daily PvP mode built on Era Units. It takes over from Squad Arena, which is retiring.
  • Training Mode: the sandbox players have asked for. Build any squad from your own roster and fight it, Datacrons included.
  • Arena Currency: Squad, Fleet and Grand Arena currencies merge into one currency, capped at 100,000.
  • Crit Defense: a new stat that works against Crit Damage.

Overcharge: Mods for Era Units

Capital Games was direct about why Overcharge exists. Mods work for legacy content, but waiting on the right mod drops doesn’t fit a 12-week Era. Overcharge is the Era-only answer.

  • Every Era Unit and Loaned Unit gets six stat options to choose from. Those options can change from one Era to the next.
  • Your Overcharge Level goes up through normal play, and each level adds points to a shared roster pool. Every unit gets the same number of points to spend, so building one character never shortchanges another.
  • Reallocating points is free, for any unit, at any time.
  • The game recommends one to three stat options for each unit if you don’t want to theorycraft.
  • Leftover points convert into Mod Materials at the end of the Era.

For anyone who has spent years building a mod inventory, here’s what that means. Your mods aren’t going anywhere. Coliseum already ignores mods, which we covered in our Coliseum hub. Overcharge gives Era modes their own stat layer instead – basically Overcharge in SWGoH means Era mods.

Mods matter again the moment an Era ends and its units become legacy units. That’s when Mara Jade, The Ronin and Darth Jar Jar head into Grand Arena, Territory Wars and the new raid, and that’s what our Mods in SWGoH guides are built for. If you’re planning ahead for the Myths & Legends crew, start with our Best Mods for the Era of Myths & Legends Characters roundup.

Era Arena: Squad Arena’s replacement

Era Arena becomes the main PvP mode for Era content, and Squad Arena retires to make room for it. The rules:

  • Every squad is a full five characters with at least one Era Unit, filled out with Loaned Units.
  • Era Units share select faction tags with the rest of the squad, which opens up team combinations that wouldn’t work elsewhere.
  • You get a board of six opponents, split into Dangerous, Risky and Secure picks. Harder fights pay more.
  • There are no cooldowns between attacks.
  • Only your best battle of the day counts, and losing on defense never costs you banners.
  • Era Arena uses the same Era Shards as Coliseum, so you’ll see the same names on both leaderboards.
  • Daily rewards are claimed from the leaderboard (they go to your inbox if you forget). Weekly rewards land in your inbox every Tuesday at 11 a.m. PT. Coliseum is moving to the same reward system.
  • Per the April update, omicrons won’t be active, and Datacrons work on offense but not on defense for now.

Quests change with it. The daily quest now asks for one Era Arena attempt, episode quests accept either Fleet Arena or Era Arena wins, and your old Squad Arena wins move to your profile as Legacy Squad Arena Wins.

Is this another daily chore? Yes, it’s still a daily check-in. But the rules remove most of what made Squad Arena tedious: no cooldown timers, one bad attempt can’t sink your day, and you can’t lose ground on defense while you’re offline. Best-attempt scoring is also the closest the game has come to the weekly-best idea we suggested for Coliseum.

Training Mode: the sandbox, finally

Squad Arena was always the unofficial testing ground, so Training Mode takes over that job. You can battle using any units you own, with up to one Galactic Legend per side, and mirror matches are allowed. You can test Datacrons. Fights don’t count toward quests or rankings. The April update said it will live in the Squad Management section of your inventory.

In our state-of-the-game piece, sandbox mode was on the list of things coming “whenever it lands in a form worth having.” This looks like that form. It’s the place to check a speed tune before a GAC round (our Advanced Mod Strategy and When NOT to Use Speed guides are good starting points) or to learn what a new Datacron actually does before you rely on it.

Arena Currency and the new Crit Defense stat

Your existing Squad Arena, Fleet Arena and Grand Arena currencies convert into the new Arena Currency at these rates:

  • Squad Arena Currency: 0.5 per unit
  • Fleet Arena Currency: 1.0 per unit
  • Grand Arena Currency: 1.5625 per unit

The new currency caps at 100,000, and the old shipments move into a single Era Arena shipment with bulk buying. Do the math on your own balances before the switch. Grand Arena currency converts the richest: 64,000 of it alone fills the cap. Capital Games hasn’t said what happens to anything above 100,000, so if your combined total would go over, spending some down first is the safe move.

Crit Defense is the counterpart to Crit Damage, the same way Crit Avoidance is the counterpart to Crit Chance. It subtracts from the attacker’s Crit Damage before the hit is multiplied. The multiplier can’t drop below 1.0, so a crit will never do less than a normal hit. It’s worth watching because many of the newest attackers are built around Crit Damage: Mara Jade’s unique adds 30% Crit Chance and Crit Damage, and The Ronin’s adds 50% Crit Damage on top of a Crit Damage triangle.

What else is landing around it

Era of The Mandalorian and Grogu (Oct 20 to Nov 17). A four-week Mini-Era that is currently underway, this Era is built around the Galactic Legend The Mandalorian and Grogu, with Adelphi Ranger and Mercenary Guard Droid (B1) as the Era marquees. Max Era Level is 75 and Coliseum caps at Tier 8. The next Era goes back to the normal 12 weeks.

Droid Destruction raid (targeting November). Themed on the vault-door fight from the Nal Hutta climax of The Mandalorian and Grogu. It uses Marquee and Journey Guide units from the Era of Deadly Pursuits through the current Era, which includes all seven Myths & Legends units. Entry ranges from Gear XII to Relic 10, and Tier 0 has no requirements. See our SWGoH Raids hub for the current raid lineup.

Era Battle: The Mandalore Legacy (near the end of the year). Seven tiers built around Adelphi Ranger and B1, with Tier 7 asking for both at Relic 9. More on our Eras & Era Battles page.

Bottom line

Our state-of-the-game piece ended with five fixes. Training Mode answers the oldest request on that list. Era Arena’s best-attempt scoring moves in the direction of a weekly best instead of a daily obligation. And Droid Destruction is a reason to take a year of Era units into a guild mode, which is exactly the “new toys in old content” idea.
