The latest Legendary character in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes is Jar Jar Binks. Yes. Legendary character. Added in May 2024, Jar Jar is the 5th and final member of the Gungan faction and you need the other four Gungans at Relic 5 to attempt to unlock him. Below is a record of what I tried out to start and how it progressed in my quest to add Jar Jar Binks to my roster. I purposely did not go as far with my mods and Relics as I was willing to just to show the progression and what needed to happen to unlock Jar Jar Binks this first time around. I hope you find it helpful in your own unlocking of Jar Jar.
After you unlock Jar Jar be sure to check out the Best Mods for Jar Jar Binks article and get him and his Gungan teammates ready as we review the best teams in the Battle of Naboo Raid. In addition, I have a higher-level TL;DR style Best Mods for the Gungan faction article on the site and the individual, in-depth mod guides for each Gungan character is linked below by their names.

Tier I Battle:
The graphics and scene are great to start. Well done CG. I take on the “chopping down trees” approach of trying to take out the B1 with the fewest stacks remaining and focus on it until dead. Getting Retribution to counter the enemy AoE attacks is critical at the beginning to getting a lot of stacks removed and my mods were good enough to allow me to get 55 shards of Jar Jar Binks to start.
Tier II Battle:
For Tier II I return with the same mods and stats for this first attempt, and Tarpals takes the first turn to dispel the Damage Immunity from the Droideka. From here it is a lot of reading through the abilities to get comfortable, and I lose my Phalanx rather early. I try again and lose him a bit later, but still way too early. Keeping the Overcharges on the STAP and Droideka while simultaneously keeping the All Units Advance on the B1 Battle Droids is the key here, but I go ahead and slice and upgrade some mods and add a Relic level to Gungan Phalanx that I will definitely be adding eventually anyway (see “My Gungans v02” below).
My second time through I stop trying to be so strategic with each move and start using the specials more liberally. While Retribution is paying off as I get the marked B1 in the center below 100 stacks, the Droideka ends up with Deathmark on him and I take advantage, getting the kill. I start spreading attacks around to control the enemies and the Retribution does the B1 in as I now have just three enemies left, so I start working on the STAP enemies. Once I get both down, I go back to statregy and look to remove turn meter from the lone B1 and take care of him with ease.
My Gungans (v02):
- Captain Tarpals – Relic 5 – All mods at 6-dots – Speed & Health sets – 310 Speed, 54k Health, 105k Protection
- Gungan Boomadier – Relic 5 – All mods at 6-dots – Speed & Health sets – 305 Speed, 56k Health, 110k Protection
- Boss Nass – Relic 5 – Two mods at 6-dots – 2 Health, 1 Potency set – 282 Speed, 68k Health, 84k Protection
- Gungan Phalanx – Relic 6 – All mods at 6-dots – 2 Health, 1 Defense set – 236 Speed, 74k Health, 125k Protection
Tier III Battle:
For Tier III I start with the “My Gungans v02” above but have plenty of ability to upgrade Relic levels and slice more mods. After two attempts I feel like I do not have the power to get through this battle with my team at their current Relic levels.
I slice and upgrade more mods until I run out of slicing materials to continue, but I leave my Relics alone for now. In this battle I land Defense Down and other debuffs a bit easier and try to take advantage of the attacks that debuff the enemies, hit harder when they are rebuffed, and remove turn meter. I am finding that for this battle I need a LOT more potency on my Gungans to land the debuffs I want, but I proceed anyway. After several turns and a lot of work on the Droidekas I finally get one down around the time the B1 in the middle gets to 200 stacks. I work on containing the other two Doridekas and keeping the All Units Advance from the B1s. After several attempts to work down both Droidekas, the Retribution is enough to kill the B1 in the front, but the other is getting dangerously high on the All Units Advance. Stuck behind a Marked Dorideka, I finally get around that and a taunt and can hit the B1 who has 8 stacks. I ficus hits on the B1 and get it taken care of but have two Droidekas still in my way, one who is taunting and has Damage Immunity and the other with 20 stacks of Overcharge. I lose my Phalanx to the big hit, but dispel with Boss Nass and now have multiple debuffs on both Droidekas as I smell blood. I lose my Shield Generator as I get one Droideka to red health just as it rolls up and gets Damage Immunity but Boss Nass is available with a dispel again, and I finish it off. One Droideka and four Gungans remain as he rolls up and takes a big hit on Jar Jar, but the charge was not enough, Tarpals dispels the buffs and I get the very challenging win and another 55 shards closer toward unlocking Jar Jar Binks.
Tier IV Battle:
For Tier IV I start with the “My Gungans v02a” which is not listed and includes a couple of mods having been upgraded, but very little change in the main stats. For this battle we face Darth Maul and while getting his Protection down is not very challenging, getting debuffs to stick and getting his health down is. I focus on debuffing him as much as possible with Frustration whenever I can, and when you get to 3 stacks of Strengthen Shield it does not allow Darth Maul to heal anymore which opens the battle up. It takes forever even to get him to 50% health, but I keep dispelling his Advantage when I can, keeping my Gungans clean from debuffs and debuffing Maul. I just keep grinding as the outcome does not seem to ever be in jeopardy and win to earn another 55 shards needed to unlock Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes.
My Gungans (v03):
- Captain Tarpals – Relic 8 – All mods at 6-dots – Offense & Potency sets – 322 Speed, 53k Health, 87k Protection, 94.77% Potency, 9621 Physical Damage – temp mods
- Gungan Boomadier – Relic 8 – All mods at 6-dots – CC & CD sets – 312 Speed, 69k Health, 69k Protection, 87.47% CC, 222% CD – Han Solo mods
- Boss Nass – Relic 8 – All mods at 6-dots – 2 Health, 1 Potency set – 322 Speed, 80k Health, 88k Protection
- Gungan Phalanx – Relic 8 – All mods at 6-dots – 2 Health, 1 Defense set – 228 Speed, 80k Health, 140k Protection, 77.1% Armor – temp mods
Tier V Battle:
For the Tier V battle I upgraded my Gungans to v03 above as I know I will need them at Relic 7+ for the Raid and other game modes eventually, and my weekend is full so I do not have time to screw around and fight this 10+ times. I am hopeful that the added damage to Tarpals and Boomadier plus added survivability for them all will be enough to get through this without much trouble. What I instead found out was that with my weekend schedule being full from Friday afternoon until Monday morning, this event would prove to be the most frustrating one I have fought since unlocking GAS in October 2019.
Wave 1 – To the battle, I land a quick Defense Down on the Droideka on the far right, them I am able to keep focusing on it and take it out quickly for an early momentum burst. A couple of AoE attacks later and I remain stuck hitting the B1 in the center as the B1 on the left is mounting stacks of All Units Advance. An AoE from Tarpals proves very important as he takes out the STAP and another as two B1 Battle Droids with nearly 300 stacks remain. I am able to buff up my team and take advantage of Retribution on my team to get a lot of counters in, and the counters alone kill off one B1 as I cruise ahead to the final wave, working to reset my cooldowns on several runs before paying closer attention to the battle mechanics. Getting the Shield Generator to continually refresh proves to be more important than the cooldowns, so in my winning run and (much) more successful runs I instead used specials that helped
Wave 2 – I start with an AoE Stun that gets things headed in the right direction and I debuff the enemies with Boss Nass and Boomadier. I try to go through the abilities and choose the best for each turn, using debuffs agains the enemies, but both Droideka and Nute Gunray continue to heal back up thanks to the B1 and this wave is a bit of a challenge. I struggle to get the Droideka’s health down as well and have to restart and come back, revising “My Gungans v03” a few of times. Not allowing the Droideka to get too many stacks of Overcharge while also eliminating the B1 is tough, but I finally am able to do so and then get a Stun on both the Droideka and Nute Gunray which is a big help. Taking out Droideka is tough as B1 continues to heal him back up, but I remain focused as everyone I have seen win this battle online used this same strategy that I initially thought, despite the difficulty. The added damage and CC/CD for Boomadier and Tarpals here is essential as I finally get the Droideka down so that I can focus on the B1. I continue to have the Phalanx taunt as much as possible and work to keep the Shield Generator resetting as I finish off the B1 and then also while working Nute Gunray’s health down. When he gets to 1% health a new Droideka appears, so I go all in on the new Droideka, continuing with the strategy until it is down. I am able to have my entire team alive by carefully using all that I have learned until I finally beat Nute Gunray and (finally) unlock Jar Jar Binks.
