Lego 75179 review

LEGO Set 75179 Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter – Review

Posted on May 6, 2025 by ljcool110

LEGO set 75179, Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter, is a striking representation of one of the most intimidating ships from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This set, released in 2017 as part of the LEGO Star Wars line, captures the sleek menace of Kylo Ren’s personal starfighter and delivers a satisfying build experience with impressive attention to detail.

Appearance in The Last Jedi

Kylo Ren’s TIE Silencer made its cinematic debut in Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017). Unlike the traditional TIE Fighters of the Imperial fleet, the Silencer is a custom model that reflects Kylo’s aggressive and brooding persona. With its long, dagger-like wings and powerful twin engines, the ship played a key role during the intense assault on the Resistance fleet and the memorable moment when Kylo hesitates before destroying Leia’s command ship. The design blends Sith menace with technological sophistication, echoing both Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced and modern First Order aesthetics.

LEGO Build Experience

With 630 pieces, the LEGO version of the TIE Silencer offers a moderately complex and rewarding build. The core structure is solid and symmetrical, with the wings providing a satisfying engineering challenge due to their angled, fin-like shape. The building process is cleanly segmented, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow.

The final product feels sturdy and well-balanced, which is a pleasant surprise considering the narrow wing supports. LEGO did a good job reinforcing the structure without compromising on design accuracy.

Design and Style

Lego 75179 reviewThe design is one of the most visually striking aspects of this set. The TIE Silencer’s elongated wings and central cockpit are accurately recreated, giving the ship its menacing, predatory look. The dark gray and black color palette mirrors its onscreen counterpart, and red highlights around the cockpit windows add a subtle but effective contrast.

The cockpit opens from the top, with enough room to seat the Kylo Ren minifigure. Spring-loaded missile launchers are embedded under each wing—functional and fun, especially for younger fans. The ship’s shape and proportions are well-executed for a set at this scale, though the size means some finer details are simplified.

Minifigures

The set includes four minifigures:

  • Kylo Ren (with his distinctive crossguard lightsaber and a scarred face print),

  • A First Order TIE Pilot,

  • A First Order Stormtrooper,

  • A BB-9E droid.

Kylo Ren’s figure is particularly detailed, featuring a textured robe and dual-faced head. BB-9E, the dark counterpart to BB-8, is a nice bonus that adds personality to the lineup.

Final Thoughts on LEGO 75179

Pros:

  • Accurate and stylish representation of the TIE Silencer.

  • Good build quality and structural stability.

  • Detailed minifigures, especially Kylo Ren.

  • Great display presence.

Cons:

  • Limited interior/cockpit detail.

  • May feel slightly undersized for collectors seeking a larger scale.

LEGO 75179 – Rating: 8.5/10

LEGO 75179 is a well-designed, display-worthy set that will please both Star Wars collectors and casual fans alike. It captures the sinister elegance of Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter with impressive fidelity for its size and price point. While it may not be as expansive or feature-rich as some larger UCS-style sets, it succeeds as a mid-tier offering with strong play and display value.
