During my time at Gaming-fans.com I started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. While I enjoyed our brief time with a communicative Capital Games consistently working myself and the other SWGoH GameChangers, there was an inability to support that level of community engagement from within CG, so I became just another member of the community, only with a bit more of a public voice. Now that my days with Gaming Fans are well behind me, I will seek to keep the same kind of content going as I resume the “best mods in SWGoH” series today with the Best Mods for CX-2.
The newest character in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, CX-2 is the second clone to assist Lord Vader on his new team, a team that looks to be one of the top teams in SWGoH once complete. CX-2 helps “counter squads that dispel debuffs” and “synergizes well with Appo by reapplying his Dramatic Entrance upon every enemy defeat for an even more dramatic battle.” CX-2 is a Dark Side Support and a Clone Trooper who is a member of the Empire faction. Let’s take a look at how we want to focus the mod stat gains for CX-2 in Galaxy of Heroes.
Note that I have learned that I get a bit wordy in these Best Mods articles, so as a result the TL;DR on mods for CX-2 is below.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
CX-2 starts with a base Speed of 166, well below Appo’s 188, so this means that EA Capital Games intends for him to take his first turn after Appo, but after that all bets are off. He has the ability to debuff his enemies and buff his Empire teammates, and grants all Empire allies 10% bonus Protection until the end of the encounter whenever the enemies dispel a debuff. Intended to be used alongside Lord Vader, this should prove to be quite valuable give the Damage Over Time and other debuffs this team should be applying regularly. Statistically speaking, CX-2 does not have any base stats, other than his Tenacity, that are much better than middle-of-the-pack, but he does gain 10% Max Health and Offense for each Empire ally per his unique. In addition, in 3v3 GAC with the Omicron applied, the following applies:
-
Empire allies gain 100% Max Health.
-
If all allies at the start of battle are Dark Side Clone Troopers and/or Lord Vader, all allies gain 50% Offense, and the first time they fall below 50% Health, they recover 100% Health and gain 30% bonus Protection for 2 turns.
-
Whenever any stacks of Damage Over Time are dispelled on the enemy, they gain a stack of Damage Over Time, which can’t be dispelled, evaded, or resisted, until the end of battle.
-
If CC-1119 “Appo” is active, CX-2 is immune to taunt effects and can’t be targeted during enemy turns.
Given his kit and abilities, and his low base Potency, you’re going to want to boost that stat significantly. While the Lord Vader leader ability grants Dark Side allies +20 Speed, +20% Mastery, and +15% Max Health, which is doubled for Empire allies, Potency is not a boosted stat. His ability to Disarm enemies will be quite helpful and the Speed Up that comes from his special will increase the rate of his turns once the battle gets going, but the true value of his kit will be where all Empire allies 10% bonus Protection until the end of the encounter whenever they dispel a debuff. In terms of survivability, you want to focus on Health due to the Lord Vader lead and the Health recovery built into his kit, with no major emphasis on any of the survivability stats. The Lord Vader leadership turns Protection into Health for those under his lead, so wherever you can get the higher stat, at least for now, looks to be the best option. Once we have this entire team together we will know more and I will revise this to ensure that the CX-2 mods are optimized for us all.
Modding CX-2 for the Revenge of the Sith / Operation Knightfall Raid:
With the addition of the new Operation Knightfall Raid, which we’re still waiting for an official name for at this time, I am sure that mods for CX-2 will be an important thing to review. While the Empire team that will be used will not have Lord Vader as the leader, but instead Grand Moff Tarkin, the Dark Side Clones are supposed to be one of the main teams in this new Raid. When the time comes we will update this information here to help the SWGoH community out in deciding on the best CX-2 mods.
Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations for CX-2
CX-2 is a Dark Side Support with a nice synergy with Appo and Lord Vader. While his stats do not wow me at all, the ability to grant all Empire allies 10% bonus Protection until the end of the encounter whenever the enemies dispel a debuff is going to be huge given how Lord Vader works. While his base 166 Speed is not one that normally calls for a Speed set, I do think a set of four Speed mods could be in play here as well as a Potency set. This is all subject to change once I see what the devs suggest and factor that in, and once this team is complete. So for now, here are my recommendations for the best mods for Dark Side Clone Trooper CX-2:
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For CX-2, you want to use a SPEED mod here and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on speed, potency, health and offense.
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For CX-2, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on potency, health, critical chance and offense.
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For CX-2, you want to use a POTENCY mod here with a secondary focus on speed, potency, health and offense.
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For CX-2, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a primary focus on Critical Damage and a secondary focus on speed, potency, health and offense.
- Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, and for CX-2 go with a POTENCY mod with a health focus for the primary. The secondary focus stats should be speed, potency, health and offense.
- Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense or offense. For CX-2, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a focus on Potency, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats look to add speed, potency, health and offense.
