Eras & Era Battles

When Capital Games and Electronic Arts introduced Eras to Galaxy of Heroes, it marked one of the most ambitious structural changes in the game’s history. Drawing consistent discussion online, the Era system reshaped roster progression, introduced Era Battles, and temporarily segmented characters into seasonal environments.

This page breaks down everything you need to know — how Eras work, why they matter, how Era Battles function, and what the long-term impact has been on roster strategy.

What Are Eras in Galaxy of Heroes?

An Era is a seasonal content structure that introduces:

  • A themed batch of new characters
  • A separate progression track (Era Levels)
  • A competitive leaderboard mode (Coliseum)
  • Exclusive Era Battles
  • Temporary roster isolation (early on)

Rather than immediately integrating new characters into all game modes, Capital Games initially limited Era units to Era-specific content. This decision created significant community conversation, especially regarding resource allocation and roster planning.

How Era Progression Works

Unlike traditional leveling (1–85), relics, and mods, Eras use their own upgrade ladder:

Era Levels

  • Characters begin at Era Level 1

  • Progression requires Era Materials

  • Level caps increase over time (55 → 66 → 70+)

  • Stat boosts apply inside Era modes

Era materials are primarily earned through:

  • Daily Coliseum rewards

  • Era Pass purchases

  • Event completions

  • Limited-time packs

This structure creates a secondary progression economy layered on top of standard SWGoH development.

The Purpose of Eras

Based on forum discussions and developer posts, Eras were designed to:

  1. Create a controlled competitive environment

  2. Prevent immediate disruption of existing metas

  3. Encourage strategic spending without invalidating older investments

  4. Provide seasonal refresh cycles

While controversial at launch, many competitive players appreciated the contained ecosystem — especially during tight 3v3 GAC windows when rapid meta shifts can destabilize matchmaking.

Era Battles

Era Battle are new battles in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes that feature new characters in SWGoH fighting other new content in the game. The first Era Battle in the game was the Knightfall Era Battle featuring Lord Vader, Appo and other new Dark Side Clones facing Jedi Vanguards in the Jedi Temple, with Conquest prize Jocasta Nu in the final wave of the battle.

Knightfall Era Battle SWGoHBelow we take a look at the Era Battles in SWGoH as they are added to the game.

Knightfall Era Battle

Lord Vader, Appo and other new Dark Side Clones facing Jedi Vanguards in the Jedi Temple. The way the event began in SWGoH was with just Lord Vader and CC-1119 “Appo” facing four waves of Jedi enemies. The first enemy was a Jedi Consular, then Shaak Ti, Kelleran Beq and finally Jocasta Nu. As each new Dark Side Clone Trooper was released, the battle came back the week following their release adding CX-2 and Disguised Clone Trooper to the battle.

Long-Term Implications of Eras in SWGoH

Eras introduced several lasting structural changes:

  • Seasonal character pipelines

  • Controlled meta injection

  • Isolated PvP ecosystems

  • Additional monetization layers

  • More intentional kit synergy design

Importantly, Era kits tend to be:

  • Highly synergistic internally

  • Designed around wave combat

  • Less plug-and-play outside their faction

This has led to more defined team identities.
