It was modding advice and guides like this which put my old site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. Over the years I have written literally hundreds of mod guides, including almost all of the original best mods guides over at Gaming-fans.com. Now that my days with Gaming Fans are behind me, I am working to keep the same kind of content going as I resume the “best mods” series today with the Best Mods for Zaalbar.
Zaalbar, also known as “Big Z,” stands out as a beloved character in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). As a companion and ally to Mission Vao, Zaalbar is a figure of integrity and resilience, embodying the best qualities of the Wookie species. In Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, Zaalbar is a Light Side Wookie Tank who is a member of the Old Republic, Scoundrel and Mercenary factions, Let’s take a look at the mods and stats to enhance Zaalbar in SWGoH.
Note that I have been told that I can get a bit long-winded when writing these mod guides. As a result, if you simply want the TL;DR on how to mod Zaalbar, it is below.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
Zaalbar is a tank made to absorb damage in SWGoH, specifically to keep enemies from killing off his sidekick Mission Vao. With the recent addition of an Omicron for Zaalbar, this Wookie Tank is about to see a lot more use in the Grand Arena, especially 3v3 GAC. In the 3v3 mode, Zaalbar and Darth Reva team up and gain Mission Vao’s stats making this trio turn into one heck of a duo. You’re going to want to keep Zaalbar as thick as possible, with a ton of Tenacity to ensure he does not get debuffed to mess up his role as a protecting Tank. Speed is not really relevant for Zaalbar, which is rare in SWGoH, as you simply need him high on Health, Defense and Tenacity with added Protection as a bonus. In 5v5 mode the strategy is not any different, and if you can debuff your enemies multiple times over, you will see the Defense and Tenacity go through the roof. Finally, Zaalbar is also quite useful for the Wookie Combat Mission on Kashyyyk in the RotE Territory Battle. Once again, the modding strategy should not change, just keep the taunt on Zaalbar in every game mode when possible to annoy the enemy and protect your allies.
Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations for Zaalbar:
Looking at Zaalbar’s base stats, he has a solid base Health and Defense stats and the 12th highest base Protection stat in the game. Boosting these with a ton of Tenacity is the recommendation to ensure that Big Z fills his role as the Wookie protector of Mission Vao and his teammates. As a result of all of this, here is what I am recommending for the best mods for Zaalbar:
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For Zaalbar, you want to use a TENACITY/HEALTH mod here and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on tenacity, health, defense and potency or protection.
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For Zaalbar, you want to use a TENACITY mod here with a primary focus on Health and a secondary focus on tenacity, defense, potency and protection.
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For Zaalbar, you want to use a TENACITY/HEALTH mod here with a secondary focus on tenacity, health, defense and potency or protection.
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For Big Z, you want to use a TENACITY/DEFENSE mod here with a primary focus on Health and a secondary focus on tenacity, health, defense and potency or protection.
- Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, so use an TENACITY/DEFENSE mod with a Health primary. The secondary focus stats should be tenacity, health, defense and potency or protection.
- Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense offense. For Zaalbar, you want to use a TENACITY mod here with a Tenacity focus, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats, look to add health, defense, potency and protection.
