Today I will review the best mods for the Great Mothers, the newest member of SWGoH and a lifter unit for a non-Old Daka & Mother Talzin Nightsisters team. Like many characters before the Great Mothers, this character addition will make older characters relevant as Nightsister Spirit and Nightsister Acolyte should now have in-game viability, and the Great Mothers make the investment into Morgan Elsbeth now worthwhile.
During my time at Gaming-fans.com I started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. While I enjoyed our brief time with a communicative Capital Games consistently working myself and the other SWGoH GameChangers, there was an inability to support that level of community engagement from within CG, so I became just another member of the community, only with a bit more of a public voice. Now that my days with Gaming-fans.com are behind me, I am working to keep the same kind of content going as I resume the “best mods” series today with the Best Mods for the Great Mothers.
The Great Mothers in Galaxy of Heroes are described as “A trio of mysterious Supports who wield the threads of fate and destiny to doom their enemies and bless their allies.” This represents the second large character to take up extra space on-screen in the game joining Galactic Legend Jabba the Hutt. Let’s take a look at how we want to focus the mod stat gains for the Great Mothers in Galaxy of Heroes.
Note that I have been told that I can get a bit long-winded when writing these mod guides. As a result, if you simply want the TL;DR on how to mod the Great Mothers, it is below.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
The Great Mothers are not one of the faster character in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, but with a base Speed of 176 and the ability the Great Mothers are now slow either. The opening move, however, will be a lot like Doctor Aphra, as if no enemies are inflicted with Doomed, this character removes Ability Block and takes a bonus turn. Because of this, and the +30 Speed granted by their leadership, a heavy Speed focus will not be necessary.
A very strong base Special Damage stat is met with the Majik Storm ability that deals damage to enemies three times, but it is met with the typically low Special CC and Resistance Penetration stats, so plan to boost the damage and CC stats through mods.
One the survivability side, the Great Mothers have a average base Health stat and solid Protection, and while their Armor/Resistance stats are also not impressive, the leadership boosts both the Health and Defense of this character by 30% to make them much tougher to kill. In addition, with the 11th highest base Tenacity stat in the game, landing debuffs on this large unit will not be easy.
Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations
Before looking at what the developers recommend, I am expecting offensive stats to be the focus of the mods… And it turns out that the EA Capital Games developers and I do not agree, something that is rare on new characters. The recommendations are Speed & Health, and I expected it to be Offense or CC and Health so this will be interesting to see as the Great Mothers become more and more widely used in-game. Note that below I push for Offense AFTER reaching Relics and getting past Gear 13 – until then you can use whatever you are comfortable with. I never designed these mod guides to do what I am told, but to instead share my thoughts on those looking for more information about SWGoH, so here is what I am recommending for the best mods for the Great Mothers:
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For the Great Mothers, I recommend a OFFENSE mod here after upgrading past Gear 13 and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on speed, offense, CC, health and defense.
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For the Great Mothers, you want to use a OFFENSE mod here after upgrading past Gear 13 with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on health, defense, offense and critical chance.
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For the Great Mothers, you want to use a OFFENSE mod here after upgrading past Gear 13 with a secondary focus on speed, offense, health and defense or CC.
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For the Great Mothers, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with a primary focus on Offense and a secondary focus on speed, CC, health and defense.
- Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, and the Great Mothers benefit nicely from a higher Health stat, so this is pretty easy – OFFENSE mod with a Health primary. The secondary focus stats should be offense and speed and then offense, defense and critical chance.
- Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense offense. For the Great Mothers, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with an offense or health focus, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats, look to add speed, CC, health and offense.
