During my time at Gaming-fans.com I started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. While I enjoyed our brief time with a communicative Capital Games consistently working myself and the other SWGoH GameChangers, there was an inability to support that level of community engagement from within CG, so I became just another member of the community, only with a bit more of a public voice. Now that my days with Gaming-fans.com are behind me, I am working to keep the same kind of content going as I resume the “best mods in SWGoH” series today with the Best Mods for Gungan Boomadier.
Here is the SWGoH explanation of the generic Gungan Boomadier: “Gungan Boomadier’s swift attacks are most amplified when capitalizing on debuffed enemies and gains impressive bonuses while the Shield Generator is active.” With this in mind, it is worth noting that he has a base Speed of 172, just 1 behind Captain Tarpals and 5 behind Boss Nass. However, like Tarpals, Boomadier is a character that the devs have already come out and said should get a Speed set.
So let’s break the above information down. Gungan Boomadier has a basic that deals triple damage if the target is Shocked, and only one Gungan teammate can Shock an opponent – Captain Tarpals. Given both have the dev recommendation (and StarWars-fans.com recommendation) of a Speed set, it makes sense to line up your opening turn order to have Tarpals take the first turn, followed closely by Gungan Boomadier. As the battle progresses, Gungan Boomadier also deals additional damage to enemies with Offense Down, Defense Down, Healing Immunity and Speed Down with his Cluster Booma special. Note that the Defense Down and Healing Immunity debuffs both can some from Boss Nass’ Intimidating Order special and Speed Down from out of turn attacks by Gungans. While I expect this will evolve, my early turn order will be 1) Captain Tarpals, 2) Gungan Boomadier and then 3) Boss Nass with Jar Jar’s crazy kit being the wild card. With all of this in mind, check the stats you are gaining and line up the Speed of your characters to ensure you get the optimal turn order for your Gungans to maximize their effectiveness.
Also, if I am too wordy for you, as I have learned I am a bit long-winded, check out the new Best Mods for Gungan Boomadier TL;DR that I have added below.
Note that the Gungan Boomadier is pictured in-game with placeholder mods until I get him to 7-stars.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
As I stated in the best mods for the Gungans in SWGoH article, the Speed and CC recommendations from the devs seems like a good way to go to start, and then we can adjust as needed. Offense is going to be an important stat to boost as Gungan Boomadier has +30% Offense and Defense Penetration from his unique, and given the mention of CC by the devs, CC and Critical Damage are in play. He also can land Ability Block and Protection Disruption with his Horn of the Otoh Gunga special so added Potency is also a wise move. Like all Gungans, your survivability will come from Health and Protection, and 75% of Gungan Boomadier’s Max Health is turned into Max Protection at the start of the battle.
Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations
The developers and I rarely disagree on new characters, but I will likely go with a Speed set of four and a Health set of 2 mods. I farm and buy CC mods less than any other type and do not feel like the 8% boost in Critical Chance is worth using two specific mods when Health mods are so readily available in this game. Here is what I am recommending for the best mods for the Gungan Boomadier:
-
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For Gungan Boomadier, you want to use a SPEED mod here and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on speed, offense, potency and critical chance or protection.
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For Gungan Boomadier, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on offense, health, protection and critical chance or potency.
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For Gungan Boomadier, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a secondary focus on speed, offense, potency and critical chance or protection.
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For Gungan Boomadier, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with a primary focus on Critical Damage and a secondary focus on speed, offense, potency and critical chance or protection.
- Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, and Gungan Boomadier benefits greatly from a high Protection stat, so use a SPEED mod with a Protection primary. The secondary focus stats should be speed, offense, potency and critical chance or protection.
- Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense offense. For Gungan Boomadier, you want to use a SPEED mod here with an Offense focus, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats, look to add speed, offense, potency and critical chance or protection.
