During my time at Gaming-fans.com I started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. While I enjoyed our brief time with a communicative Capital Games consistently working myself and the other SWGoH GameChangers, there was an inability to support that level of community engagement from within CG, so I became just another member of the community, only with a bit more of a public voice. Now that my days with Gaming-fans.com are behind me, I am working to keep the same kind of content going as I resume the “best mods” series today with the Best Mods for Captain Tarpals.
Captain Roos Tarpals was a Gungan Captain who went on to become the leading General of their Grand Army. The character who told Jar Jar Binks in Episode I that he was in “big doo-doo this time,” Captain Tarpals was added to Galaxy of Heroes as a Marquee event in March 2024 as the second Gungan in the game to go along with Boss Nass. Let’s take a look at how we want to focus the mod stat gains for Captain Tarpals in Galaxy of Heroes and start looking at how this entire Gungan faction should be modded for maximum success on the Holotables.
Also, if I am too wordy for you, as I have learned I am a bit long-winded, check out the new Best Mods for Captain Tarpals TL;DR that I have added below.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
For Captain Tarpals, you’re going to be using him on a team of Gungans under a Boss Nass lead. Boss Nass, without the Omicron, grants Gungan allies +30% Max Protection and Offense and +30 Speed. He also grants allies 50% Bonus Protection when they fall below 50% Health, but knowing that Bonus Protection is based off of Max Health, that does not mean we ignore the Health stat. In addition, Captain Tarpals loses 75% of his Max Health to start a battle and gains that as Max Protection, so keep all of this in mind. While we finally know how the rest of the Gungans will impact the team as a whole, here are the main stats that you want to enhance with Captain Tarpals – Critical Chance, Speed, Potency & Protection.
For Captain Tarpals, he starts with a base Speed of 173 which is solid, but not elite compared to other non-Galactic Legends. The developers have Speed as one of the in-game recommendations, and ignoring this seems unwise, so a Speed set is definitely in play. The +30 Speed from Boss Nass’ leadership should be added in here, but a Speed set’s math is added on to the 173 base Speed, not the 203 after the leadership. The devs also recommend Critical Chance and as a damage dealer on this team, using a triangle focused on Critical Damage and the plus/cross focused on Offense is the way to go.
Which Mod Sets to use for Captain Tarpals & Dev Recommendations
As mentioned above, the developers have the recommendations of Speed and Critical Chance, and I typically align with 95% of what they say on new characters in SWGoH. I am following these guides myself based on my mod availability, but if not a CC set then most everyone has a lot of Health mods so that is a good second option. Here is what I am recommending for the best mods for the Gungan Captain Tarpals:
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For Captain Tarpals, you want to use a CRITICAL CHANCE mod here and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on speed, protection, potency and health, critical chance or offense.
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For Captain Tarpals, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on protection, health, critical chance and offense.
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For Captain Tarpals, you want to use a CRITICAL CHANCE mod here with a secondary focus on speed, protection, potency and critical chance or offense.
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For Captain Tarpals, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a primary focus on Critical Damage and a secondary focus on speed, protection, potency and health, critical chance or offense.
- Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, and Captain Tarpals benefits greatly from a high Protection stat, so use a SPEED mod with a Protection primary. The secondary focus stats should be speed, potency, health and critical chance or offense.
- Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense offense. For Captain Tarpals, you want to use a SPEED mod here with an Offense focus, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats, look to add speed, protection, potency and health or critical chance.
