During my time at Gaming-fans.com I started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. While I enjoyed our brief time with a communicative Capital Games consistently working myself and the other SWGoH GameChangers, there was an inability to support that level of community engagement from within CG, so I became just another member of the community, only with a bit more of a public voice. Now that my days with Gaming-fans.com are behind me, I am working to keep the same kind of content going as I resume the “best mods” series today with the Best Mods for the STAP.
A new unit added in February 2024, the STAP is an acronym for “single trooper aerial platform” and is a lifter unit for General Grievous and the Separatist Droid team with the B1, B2, MagnaGuard and Droideka. StarWars.com identifies the STAP as “lightweight reconnaissance and patrol vehicles used by the battle droids of the Trade Federation army (and later, the Separatist Alliance). Incorporating repulsorlift technology, the STAP is a slim, agile craft sporting a pair of blaster cannons. STAPs are often deployed as support vehicles in conjunction with larger craft.” Let’s take a look at how we want to focus the mod stat gains for the STAP in Galaxy of Heroes.
Note that I have been told that I can get a bit long-winded when writing these mod guides. As a result, if you simply want the TL;DR on how to mod the STAP, it is below.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
The main stats that you want to enhance with the STAP are Speed and all three offensive stats – Offense, Critical Chance and Critical Damage.
The STAP is the single fastest non-Galactic Legend in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes. With a base Speed of 208, it is 4 faster than the Tusken Chieftain and 10 faster than the next two, Moff Gideon and Echo, at the time of this writing. The devs at EA Capital Games do not make a unit fast unless they have a reason, and they obviously want the STAP taking an early turn to get the Separatist Droid teams going. Add to it an Omicron that allows it to go first in Grand Arena battles, and it could not be more clear that taking early turns and taking turns often is the plan for the STAP.
Offensively, the STAP is a top-20 unit in Physical Damage with solid base Physical CC and Armor Penetration. The STAP also has the 9th highest base Potency in the game which is great for landing more Target Locked debuffs and the Provoked debuff as well. While boosting Offense, CC and CD is a must, Potency is not nearly as necessary to focus heavy on because of this strong base stat, but will not hurt either.
One area of value for the STAP to take note of is the Battle for Naboo Raid. I tested the Darth Maul, Darth Sidious & Nute Gunray team out by adding the STAP with normal mods and saw little difference, but after remodding the STAP I saw some nice improvement. Doing this I was able to get my STAP to 381 speed, 205.5% CD, 115.37% Potency, 96.11% CC and 8,872 Physical Damage using a Speed set and a Potency set. After more testing, my STAP joined a team with an odd B2 Super Battle Droid lead, STAP, IG-100 Magnaguard and both Darth Maul and Darth Sidious for even better results, all of which is detailed in our Battle for Naboo raid guide.
Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations
The developers are NOT recommending a Speed set on the STAP, but rather Critical Chance (CC) and Critical Damage (CD) sets instead. This warrants testing and may come down to your personal gameplay and preferences, but either a set of 4 Speed or CD mods must be in play with the STAP. No matter what, a CD-focused triangle is a must, as is a Speed arrow mod. Here is what I am recommending for the best mods for the STAP:
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For STAP, you want to use a SPEED or CRITICAL DAMAGE mod here and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on speed, offense, CC, potency and protection.
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For STAP, you want to use a SPEED or CRITICAL DAMAGE mod here with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on potency, critical chance, offense and protection.
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For STAP, you want to use a CRITICAL CHANCE mod here with a secondary focus on speed, offense, CC, potency and protection.
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For STAP, you want to use a SPEED or CRITICAL DAMAGE mod here with a primary focus on Critical Damage and a secondary focus on speed, CC, potency and offense.
- Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, and the STAP has a very low base Health stat, so this is prettyy straightforward – CRITICAL CHANCE mod with a protection primary. The secondary focus stats should be offense and speed and then potency, critical chance or protection.
- Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense offense. For STAP, you want to use a SPEED or CRITICAL DAMAGE mod here with an offense focus, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats, look to add speed, CC, potency and offense or protection.
