During my time at Gaming-fans.com I started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. While I enjoyed our brief time with a communicative Capital Games consistently working myself and the other SWGoH GameChangers, there was an inability to support that level of community engagement from within CG, so I became just another member of the community, only with a bit more of a public voice. Now that my days with Gaming-fans.com are behind me, I am working to keep the same kind of content going as I resume the “best mods” series today with the Best Mods for Hera Syndulla.
Phoenix Squadron leader Hera Syndulla is the daughter of Clone Wars Freedom Fighter Cham Syndulla of Ryloth. She is only Phoenix character in SWGoH with a leader ability, which is fitting given the makeup of that group in Star Wars Rebels. While her time in the Ahsoka show on Disney Plus did not really fit her character from the Rebels animated series, her value in SWGoH was enhanced greatly with the addition of Captain Rex to the Phoenix squad in late 2023. Let’s take a look at how we want to focus the mod stat gains for Hera Syndulla in Galaxy of Heroes now that we have Captain Rex and the Phoenix squadron is back from the dead.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
Remember that with Hera Syndulla, her leader ability is that she grants all Unique abilities of all Phoenix members on her team to one another. Thus, the main stats that you want to enhance with Hera Syndulla will be those that will keep her alive – Health, Protection, Defense and Tenacity.
For Hera Syndulla, of the survivability stats I would rank Health a clear #1. Below is a list of Phoenix unique abilities that you are looking to choose from when putting together your group of 4 others with Hera.
- Captain Rex Unique: Captain Rex gains 25% Critical Chance, 40% Max Health, 25 Speed and 40% Tenacity. (and) …Whenever a Clone Trooper or Phoenix ally is inflicted with a debuff, Rex gains 5% Turn Meter per debuff and all allies recover 5% Health and Protection.
- Kanan Jarrus Unique: Kanan has 70% counter chance and recovers 25% Health whenever he suffers a debuff.
- Ezra Bridger Unique: Ezra gains 10% Offense (stacking, max 40%) at the end of his turn for the rest of the encounter and will reset if he is defeated.
- Chopper Unique: At the start of his turn, Chopper recovers 15% Health. Whenever he is damaged by an attack, he gains Protection Up (15%) for 2 turns if he doesn’t already have Protection Up. Chopper has a 30% chance to assist when another Phoenix or Droid ally uses and ability during their turn (this assist is not shared with other Phoenix allies).
- Sabine Wren Unique: Sabine has +25% Critical Chance and +25% Critical Damage.
- Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios: Zeb has bonus Max Protection equal to +40% of his Max Health and recovers 15% Protection at the start of his turn. This recovery is doubled is Zeb is debuffed.
With Captain Rex being the one definite in this group, your task is to decide who else should join Hera and Rex. I personally have more Relics on Kanan, Ezra and Chopper and have left Sabine and Zeb at the bottom. The emphasis on Max Health coming from the Captain Rex unique makes Kanan and Chopper’s health recoveries greater and increases Chopper’s Protection Up while also having a great impact on Zeb’s addition to the group. But the offensive boosts from Rex help Ezra and Sabine, so it really comes down to who you want to invest your Relic materials into.
Speed has to be a factor with Hera Syndulla as well as she has just a base Speed of 152 at Relic 8. She has a nice kit that really acts as a fantastic support for her teammates, so making sure she is not too slow and stays alive are your main goals from the mods.
Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations
The developers still have the recommendations of Speed and Potency for Hera Syndulla, recommendations that have been placed on her character for years. Personally, while both have value, I do not think either is a great place to start. I do have two Health sets and one Potency set on Hera based on my mod availability, but I would prefer three Health sets on her if those mods were indeed available. Here is what I am recommending for the best mods for Phoenix leader Hera Syndulla:
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For Hera Syndulla, you want to use a HEALTH mod here and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on speed, health, potency and tenacity, defense or protection.
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For Hera Syndulla, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on health, potency, tenacity and defense or protection.
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For Hera Syndulla, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with a secondary focus on speed, health, potency and tenacity, defense or protection.
- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For Hera Syndulla, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with a primary focus on Health and a secondary focus on speed, potency, tenacity and defense or protection.
- Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, and Hera Syndulla benefits greatly from a high Health stat, so use a HEALTH mod with a Health primary. The secondary focus stats should be speed, health, potency and tenacity, defense or protection.
- Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense offense. For Hera Syndulla, you want to use a HEALTH mod here with an Health focus, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats, look to add speed, health, potency and tenacity, defense or protection.
