The Star Wars universe continues to expand…
Live Action Star Wars in 2024
Disney and LucasFilm is expected to have two live action shows released in 2024 – The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew. The Acolyte is supposed to be a mystery thriller set in the final days of the High Republic era, while Skeleton Crew is set in the MandoVerse timeline and will tell the story of four kids lost in the galaxy, seeking a way to find their way home. Neither show has a release date yet so plan on the second half of the year at the earliest. Season 2 of Andor seems likely to be a 2025 release after the Actors’ and Writers’ Guild strikes in 2023.
Animated Star Wars in 2024
The third and final season of The Bad Batch is coming in 2024 but little is known about when. Either way, we should see how they wrap up the fate of the Bad Batch members as well as other Clone Troopers and see what happens with Omega on Mount Tantiss. Tales of the Jedi’s second season is also expected in 2024 after a successful first season that focused on Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku. Finally, Young Jedi Adventures has to wrap up their first season so expect this early in 2024.
Star Wars Video Games in 2024
Star Wars Outlaws is the big name Star Wars video game expected in 2024. A story-driven open world game set between Episoides V and VI, this time period is when the criminal underworld of Star Wars is crazy and should be a great time period to explore. Ubisoft plans to release a game in the 2024-2025 fiscal year so this may be the second half of the real 2024.
Also planned is a resmastered Star Wars Dark Forces, a first person shooter from 1995 and Star Wars Hunters, a combat arena game that has been delayed so much that the community is worried it may never make it to the public.
Star Wars Books in 2024
The High Republic began its 3rd and final phase in November 2023 and several books are planned with Wave 2 books in the summer.
The Living Force is one of the most intriguing novels set for 2024 as it is set before Episode I and will follow all 12 members of the Jedi Council.
The Glass Abyss is set for an August release and will feature Mace Windu receiving a message from Qui-Gon Jinn after his death about a final mission for the slain Jedi.
Star Wars Comics in 2024
The High Republic storyline is also told via comics and will continue throughout 2024, however Doctor Aphra and Bounty Hunters are both coming to a close in 2024 and the Darth Vader series is likely to wrap up as well. More prequel-era comics are coming including a mini-series about Jango Fett and another about Mace Windu as Star Wars really seems poised on celebrating the 25th anniversary of the prequels. In addition, Marvel will be releasing a comic adaptation of Thrawn: Alliances, one of my personal favorite Star Wars storylines, and Marvel is working on completing comic adaptations of the Obi-Wan series and The Mandalorian Season 3.
