Star Wars fans, brace yourselves for an exciting journey into the heart of the galaxy as we delve into the upcoming slate of Star Wars movies that promise to captivate audiences worldwide. With a galaxy teeming with rich characters, intricate lore, and epic tales, the Star Wars cinematic universe continues to expand, promising fans a diverse range of adventures. Today we explore the details we know so far and discuss the anticipation building around the next wave of Star Wars films.
To start, Lucasfilm has currently booked three release dates:
- May 22, 2026
- December 18, 2026
- December 17, 2027
Let me start this off with some strategic thought. Remember back to when Solo: A Star Wars Story came out just a few months after Episode 8 changed everything we loved for 30+ years about Luke Skywalker? I think they would be wise to instead stick to three straight years of December releases just in case. Now on to the movies.
Rey Skywalker and the New Jedi Order
Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 was the return os Daisy Ridley as Rey is to get her own standalone movie set 15 years after Episode 9. While this is supposed to be about Rey building a New Jedi Order, most of what has been reported is just rumors and speculation. I have heard some good speculation, like this new movie being part of a trilogy and being based on the New Jedi Order novels which are not canon, but for now we do not know much.
Dave Filoni’s Mando-verse Movie
The Mando-verse, the universe and stories created around The Mandalorian shows on Disney Plus, is expected to have an Avengers Endgame style movie directed by the Star Wars canon-keeper himself, Dave Filoni. While speculation has been wild about the timing of this movie, an expected 4th season of The Mandalorian and a rumored 2nd season of Ahsoka would likely come prior to the movie to set things up. As a result of these other titles, it is hard to believe that anything before late 2026 or even 2027 is reasonable.
“Dawn of the Jedi” by James Mangold
Exploring the origins of the Jedi and The Force, the “Dawn of the Jedi” movie by James Mangold was also announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023. Mangold is quoted as saying that this will be “a kind of origin story of how the Force came to be known.” For now we know very little.
The galaxy far, far away is set to once again captivate our hearts and imaginations with a diverse array of upcoming Star Wars films. From epic space battles to untold tales of the Force, these movies promise to expand the Star Wars lore and deliver unforgettable cinematic experiences. As we eagerly await their release, may the Force be with us, guiding us through new adventures and exciting narratives in the Star Wars universe.
