The newest Droid and the second Era Unit Character in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes is here in the form of IG-90. During my time with Gaming Fans I started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. While my days with Gaming Fans are well behind me, I have been writing mod guides like this one since the early days of mods when they were added to SWGoH in 2018. Fortunately, writing these mod guides continues to be a way for me to continue to enjoy Galaxy of Heroes now that I have been playing this game for over a decade. I will seek to keep the same high quality content going as I continue the “best mods in SWGoH” series today with the Best Mods for IG-90.
The newest character in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, IG-90 is an Era Unit Marquee character who joined the game in December 2025. IG-90 is a Dark Side Support character who has a Leader ability and fits into the Bounty Hunter, Droid and Scoundrel factions and is designed to lift the Doctor Aphra team. Let’s take a look at how we want to focus the mod stat gains for IG-90 in Galaxy of Heroes.
Note that I have learned that I get a bit wordy in these Best Mods articles, so as a result the TL;DR on mods for IG-90 is below. Also, I added a new(er) format on the recommendations below which I hop will help make these best mods articles easier to decipher.
Main Mod Stats to focus on…
IG-90 is the second Era Unit in the new cadence of new character additions in SWGoH, joining Stormtrooper Luke. Used initially in the new Coliseum game mode, IG-90 is plays like an Attacker, but when you read his kit he also provides Defense and a Taunt to the Doctor Aphra team. While it would be nice to be able to use IG-90 before January/February 2026, as this new cadence is rather ridiculous to spend this much time and money on characters that cannot be used in other game modes for literal months, we have to have an eye on the future nonetheless.
What I gathered from using IG-90 over and over again in the rather bland Coliseum game mode is that his debuffs really make him more valuable with the ability to apply Defense Down, Damage Over Time and Speed Down, so adding Potency to his base 55% Potency is recommended. When it comes to survivability, Health and Defense are the best stats to build up. Health and Defense are both impacted in his Devastating Barrage special, with a +40% Defense gain for IG-90 and the Hacked Commando Droid. Speed is not as important for IG-90 because of the 100% Counter Chance from his unique. Also note the Territory War Omicron on IG-90’s Dead or Alive? unique where it states that “Whenever IG-90 uses a Special ability and Doctor Aphra has 200 or more stacks of Siphon, IG-90 and Doctor Aphra recover 40% Health and Protection and gain 30% Offense (stacking) until the end of encounter.”
Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations for IG-90
The way these new Era Units are added to the game, we will not have any ability to use them for about 90 days from the start of the Era outside of the Coliseum game mode. As a result of this, it will be a month into 2026 before IG-90 is available to use in other areas of SWGoH, and we will not be able to add mods to this new character for quite some time. When the devs chime in with their mod recommendations, I will gladly compare and make any needed adjustments, but until then, here are my recommendations for the best mods for IG-90:
- Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense.
- Recommended Mod Type: Health
- Recommended Secondary Stats: health, defense, potency and speed or offense
- Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense.
- Recommended Mod Type: Health mod, Critical Avoidance or Defense focus
- Recommended Secondary Stats: health, defense, potency and speed or offense
- Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense.

- Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense.
