A few days ago I came across a video from Scrybe Gaming, one of my favorite YouTubers in terms of strategic Galaxy of Heroes play, on how to counter the Punishing One. Of course the addition of Dengar’s ship, the Punishing One, has been quite impactful in SWGoH, so much so that the developers have had to nerf it already. Given it is only the second ship released in 2024, you’d think they would have tested that out, but I digress…
Today, in my Grand Arena match-up, my opponent set the Punishing One on defense. Given I had done the same and no mirror match option was available, I decided to revisit and try to summarize that video below for your help and mine. For the video I am referencing, here is the link.
Countering the Punishing One with the Executrix
Capital Ship: Executrix (Grand Moff Tarkin)
Starters: Imperial TIE Fighter, TIE Advanced x1 (Vader) and Scythe
Reinforcements: TIE/IN Interceptor Prototype and TIE Defender
- ITF – special on Punishing One
- Vader – special on RC
- Enemies blow up one of your extra TIE Fighters
- Call TIE Defender & use special on Punishing One to Stun
- When the Scythe takes a turn, dispel enemy buffs with the Intimidating Fly-over ability
- Watch Turn Meter here. In Scrybe Gaming’s video and in mine, the Xanadu Blood is low health but the TIE Defender’s hard-hitting basic is ready. Like in the video, I went after the Punishing One since I knew I had a weaker enemy (4-stars) and set up that important kill.
- Finish off the Punishing One
- If Xanadu Blood is still alive and under stealth, the Executrix has an AoE which should help finish XB off
- Cleanup from here, Slave I is tougher to handle as reinforcement due to counter attacks (see video).
- Bring in TIE/IN Interceptor Prototype to help clean up.
This all worked for me in the GAC against a 4-star Punishing One with ease. My enemy used the Hound’s Tooth as reinforcement before Slave I, and other than stalling my progress, this provided no threat at all.
