As we continue our common Star Wars questions series, today we answer the question, Who were the Jedi with Mace Windu who confronted Palpatine in Revenge of the Sith? We hope you enjoy this new series here from Star Wars Fans and may the force be with you!
In Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, one of the most pivotal scenes in the saga unfolds when Jedi Master Yoda confronts Supreme Chancellor Palpatine—secretly the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. While Yoda ultimately faces Sidious alone, another crucial confrontation takes place earlier in the film when a group of Jedi Masters, led by Mace Windu, attempt to arrest Palpatine. This group plays a vital role in the fall of the Jedi Order and sets the stage for Anakin Skywalker’s tragic turn to the dark side.
The Jedi who attempted to arrest Palpatine with Mace Windu were Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto. These three Jedi Masters accompanied Windu to the Chancellor’s office after he received confirmation from Anakin Skywalker that Palpatine was, in fact, the Sith Lord they had been searching for. Each Jedi in this group was a respected member of the Jedi High Council and was chosen for this mission due to their strength in the Force and their combat prowess.
Agen Kolar was a Zabrak Jedi Master known for his skill with a lightsaber and his calm, disciplined demeanor. He hailed from the planet Iridonia and had served with distinction during the Clone Wars. Despite his strength, he was one of the first to fall during the brief confrontation with Palpatine. His death came swiftly, highlighting just how powerful Sidious truly was.
Saesee Tiin was an Iktotchi Jedi Master with strong telepathic abilities and exceptional piloting skills. He was considered one of the Order’s finest tacticians and had served on the Jedi Council for many years. Like Kolar, Tiin was taken by surprise during the confrontation and was quickly dispatched by Sidious in a matter of seconds, showing the Sith Lord’s unmatched ferocity.
Kit Fisto, a Nautolan Jedi Master known for his charismatic personality and underwater combat expertise, lasted slightly longer than his fellow Jedi but was also slain shortly after engaging Palpatine. Fisto was a fan-favorite character among fans due to his unique appearance and fighting style. His death was particularly tragic, as he had survived many battles during the Clone Wars and was regarded as one of the more powerful Jedi Masters.
Mace Windu, the senior Jedi leading the arrest, was the only one to hold his ground against Palpatine. A formidable warrior and master of the rare and aggressive Vaapad lightsaber form, Windu managed to disarm Sidious and appeared to have him beaten. However, the arrival of Anakin Skywalker changed everything. Torn between loyalty to the Jedi and his desire to save Padmé Amidala, Anakin intervened, leading to Windu’s death and the final tipping point in Anakin’s fall to the dark side.
As for Yoda, he did not accompany the Jedi Masters during this arrest attempt. Instead, Yoda was on Kashyyyk at the time, aiding the Wookiees in their defense against the Separatists. Upon learning of the Jedi purge and the fall of the Republic, Yoda returned to Coruscant and personally confronted Sidious in the Senate chamber. This battle was epic in scale and symbolized the struggle between the light and dark sides of the Force at the highest political level.
Yoda’s duel with Palpatine was more evenly matched than the earlier skirmish. The two powerful Force users unleashed devastating attacks on each other, utilizing both lightsabers and Force powers. Despite Yoda’s wisdom and skill, he ultimately failed to defeat Sidious and was forced into exile, recognizing that the Jedi Order had lost and that a different path was needed to restore balance.
The deaths of Kolar, Tiin, and Fisto were not just individual tragedies—they marked the collapse of the Jedi’s ability to confront the dark side directly. Their failure underscored how deeply Palpatine had infiltrated the Republic and how ill-prepared the Jedi were for his deception. This scene remains one of the most shocking and emotionally charged moments in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
