Introduction to Cal Kestis
The game begins five years after Order 66, the Jedi Purge. Cal Kestis, a young Jedi Padawan, is in hiding on the scrapyard planet Bracca, working as a salvager. Haunted by his past and suppressing his Force abilities, Cal tries to live unnoticed. However, when he uses the Force to save a co-worker, he’s detected by the Empire.
The Inquisitors Arrive
Cal’s Force use draws the attention of the Inquisitors, elite Force-sensitive agents of the Empire. Two Inquisitors—Second Sister and Ninth Sister—arrive to hunt him. Cal narrowly escapes with the help of Cere Junda, a former Jedi Knight, and her pilot companion Greez Dritus aboard the ship Stinger Mantis.
The Search for the Holocron Begins
Cere reveals she has a mission: to rebuild the Jedi Order. She enlists Cal’s help in recovering a Jedi Holocron hidden by Master Eno Cordova. This Holocron contains a list of Force-sensitive children who could potentially become Jedi. To find it, Cal must follow Cordova’s trail, visiting ancient ruins on various planets.
Bogano and the Zeffo Temples
Their journey begins on Bogano, where Cal meets BD-1, Cordova’s droid who holds encrypted information. Cal explores ancient temples created by the mysterious Zeffo civilization, uncovering clues Cordova left behind. Each step helps Cal reconnect with the Force and unlock memories of his training.
Kashyyyk and the Wookiee Resistance
Cal’s path takes him to Kashyyyk, where he aids the Wookiee resistance against Imperial occupation. He seeks out Tarfful, a Wookiee leader who once worked with Cordova. During the mission, Cal has a vision of his failure to protect his master, Jaro Tapal, during Order 66, intensifying his inner conflict.
Dathomir and Dark Temptation
Cal travels to Dathomir, a dark and hostile planet, home of the Nightsisters. There, he meets a mysterious figure named Taron Malicos, a former Jedi turned dark side wielder. Cal struggles with the darkness and is briefly turned away from his mission. He also meets Merrin, a surviving Nightsister wary of Jedi.
The Broken Lightsaber and Rebuilding
After a confrontation with Malicos, Cal’s lightsaber is broken, symbolizing his fractured identity. He travels to Ilum, the Jedi temple planet, to construct a new lightsaber and reaffirm his path. This moment marks a turning point in Cal’s growth from a traumatized Padawan to a confident Jedi.
Confrontation with the Inquisitors
Back on Kashyyyk and Zeffo, Cal faces off against the Ninth Sister and defeats her. Later, he returns to Dathomir, gains Merrin’s trust, and defeats Taron Malicos. Merrin joins Cal’s crew. With all the necessary information from Cordova’s quest, Cal finally accesses the location of the Holocron.
Fortress Inquisitorius
The final leg takes Cal to the underwater Fortress Inquisitorius, the Empire’s stronghold for training and torturing captured Jedi. Cal battles through the facility, ultimately confronting the Second Sister, revealed to be Cere’s former Padawan, Trilla Suduri. After an emotional duel, Cal defeats her.
Darth Vader’s Arrival
Just as Cere tries to reconcile with Trilla, Darth Vader appears, killing her instantly. Cal and Cere are forced into a desperate escape, clearly outmatched by the Sith Lord. They barely survive with Merrin’s help, escaping the Fortress as it collapses behind them.
The Holocron’s Fate
Back aboard the Stinger Mantis, Cal and the crew reflect on their journey. Despite having the Holocron and the list of Force-sensitive children, Cal realizes the dangers of using it—risking those lives to Imperial pursuit. In a symbolic act of choice, he destroys the Holocron.
A New Path Forward
The game ends with Cal, Cere, Merrin, BD-1, and Greez forging ahead with no specific destination, but with a renewed sense of purpose. They’ve grown into a surrogate family, determined to do what’s right without blindly following old Jedi dogma. Cal’s journey of healing, redemption, and self-discovery closes on a hopeful note.
