R2-D2 - SWGoH

SWGoH: Best Mods for R2-D2

Posted on July 28, 2024February 8, 2025 by ljcool110

As more characters are added to SWGoH, we cannot ignore how older characters are impacted and how the game continues to evolve. Today I take a look at a character that was first introduced in Galaxy of Heroes on May 4, 2017 – the iconic droid R2-D2. Years ago I launched Gaming-fans.com and started the “best mods” series of articles which turned out to be what put the site on the radar of the community and with EA Capital Games. As a member of the SWGoH GameChangers, the Website got even more attention as I attempted to expand into other areas of the game and even other games, constantly struggling to find the balance in the Force needed to do so. While my days with Gaming-fans.com are now behind me, I am working to keep building on what I saw as my strength all along – the “best mods in SWGoH” series as today I review the Best Mods for R2-D2 in SWGoH.

The SWGoH description of R2-D2 calls him a “Versatile Support Droid that inflicts Burning and grants allies Stealth.” Since his introduction in-game he has been paired with a variety of different teams, typically most effective with Rebels or Galactic Republic allies but also with synergies with the Resistance and other Droids. There have been a lot of different modding strategies for Artoo over the years as well, but the one I keep coming back to for an effective R2-D2 is to just make him fast with solid potency and go from there. My R2 is over 330 speed and is used in most game modes, including with Galactic Legend Leia Organa, and I do not remod him for any other game mode yet… For the reason I say yet, keep reading…

A quick note. If I am too wordy for you, as I have learned I can be a bit a bit long-winded at times, check out the new Best Mods for R2-D2 TL;DR that I have added below.

Main Mod Stats to focus on…

R2-D2 fits into the Galactic Republic, Rebel, Resistance and Droid factions as the perfect Support character, enhancing allies in all of these groups. For general gameplay you want a fast R2 and potent – over 300 speed and nearing 100% potency. My Artoo is Relic 9 and crazy on stats at 336 speed, 109k health and 114% potency, and remolding him can get these numbers even higher if you feel like that will enhance your attempts in the…

Battle for Naboo Raid. With the introduction of the Naboo Raid, R2-D2 seems to have his best home in the raid with the Queen Amidala, Padawan Obi-Wan and Master Qui-Gon trio. This is a team that I continue to test out and have done well with, all without changing any mods for R2-D2. Remember, per his unique, R2-D2 gains +10% Offense for each Galactic Republic ally, and allies gain 10% of Artoo’s Max Protection, Offense, Max Health and Potency until he is defeated. So, if used with Queen Amidala on a team that is focused heavily on Offense mods for the Naboo Raid, adding more of each of these stats, and especially Offense, can help make those attacks hit even harder.

Which Mod Sets to use & Dev Recommendations for R2-D2:

R2-D2 mods are something that everyone seems to agree on for general modding. Yes, there are some team comps that suggest slower and more offense, but for standard gameplay in SWGoH, the devs at Capital Games and I all agree – speed and potency sets.

Here is what I am recommending for the best mods for R2-D2:

    • Transmitter (Square) – The Transmitter mod always has a primary focus on offense. For R2-D2, you want to use a SPEED mod here and be sure to closely look at the secondary stats to ensure that you get a heavy secondary focus on speed, potency, health, and protection.
    • Receiver (Arrow) – The Receiver mod can have a primary focus on several stats including speed, critical avoidance, accuracy, health, protection, defense and offense. For R2-D2, you want to use a or HEALTH/POTENCY mod here with a primary focus on speed and a secondary focus on potency, health and protection.
    • Processor (Diamond) – The Processor is always going to have a primary focus on defense. For Artoo, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a secondary focus on speed, potency, health, and protection.
    • Holo-Array (Triangle) – The Holo-Array is a very specialized mod that can have a primary focus on critical chance, critical damage, health, protection, offense and defense. For R2-D2, you want to use a HEALTH/POTENCY mod here with a primary focus on Health and a secondary focus on speed, potency, health, and protection.
    • Data-Bus (Circle) – The Data-bus mod always has a primary focus on either health or protection, and R2-D2 benefits from both stats, so use a SPEED mod with the best speed, potency, and health or protection stats possible.
    • Multiplexer (Plus) – The Multiplexer (plus or cross) mod can have a primary focus on potency, tenacity, health, protection, defense offense. For Artoo, you want to use a SPEED mod here with a focus on Health, making sure to have your mod sets complete. For the secondary stats, look to add speed, potency, health, and protection.

R2-D2 Mods TL;DR

  • Square – Speed mod with speed & potency
  • Arrow – Health mod, Speed focus with potency
  • Diamond – Speed mod with speed & potency
  • Triangle – Health mod, Health focus with speed & potency
  • Circle – Speed mod, Health focus with speed & potency
  • Plus – Speed mod, Potency focus with speed & potency
