As I continue to review how the Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes community consumes their content, I was always able to carve out a niche while at Gaming-fans.com with the Best Mods guides. Now that those days are behind me, I am working to keep the same kind of content going as I work to update the best SWGoH mods series to 2024 standards. While many of these older characters do not call for drastic mod strategy changes, the addition of new characters and Datacrons can change the way we use them or greatly enhance one stat over another. As a result, I am expanding upon the traditional per-character mods guide and allowing those to be the more in-depth guides while adding the following, a faction-based TL;DR of sorts for those who do not like all of my words and just want to know how to quickly mod their characters, one faction at a time.
Today I start with the Gungan faction. Added in early 2024, the Gungans have some interesting mechanics that I will dive deeper into in the specifics character mod guides. Each character’s specific mods can be found in the links below, and of course, these are mod recommendations based on the character’s kit and actual gameplay to help you in your quest to dominate the Galaxy of Heroes holotables, and they are subject to change as new information becomes available.
Boss Nass – My initial thoughts about the Best Mods for Boss Nass article had me leaning for Health and Potency sets before seeing the Dev Recommendations are just that. Two Health sets and a Potency set should boost both stats nicely with a Protection primary on the circle and triangle mods. The arrow will be a Speed focus and the plus/cross can be a Potency or Protection focus based on how much Potency you can gain from the secondary mod stats.
Captain Tarpals – The Best Mods for Captain Tarpals is live and the Dev Recommendations are pretty clear that Speed and Critical Chance sets are the way to go. The circle mod should have a Protection primary, the arrow focused on Speed, the triangle focused on Critical Damage and the plus/cross focused on Offense.
Gungan Boomadier – An Attacker on this team, we almost always want a Speed focus on high offense characters. The devs say Gungan Boomadier should get a Speed and a Critical Chance set. Look for a Protection primary on the circle mod, a Speed focus on the arrow, Critical Damage from the triangle, and on the cross/plus mod and Offense focus.
Gungan Phalanx – The Tank of this team, the Gungan Phalanx is another where I agree completely with the Dev Recommendations of Health and Tenacity and there is no reason to disagree. Boosting his Protection from mods will be key as he gains 2% Max Protection every time he uses an ability when taunting. While the arrow mod could be a Protection or Speed focus, the circle, triangle and plus/cross mod should all be Protection as the primary stat gained.
Jar Jar Binks – I started with three Health mod sets but have since updated the best mods for Jar Jar Binks in SWGoH article after unlocking him and seeing how he works. As I stated in the article, the Jar Jar Binks unlock event did not impress me much in terms of how ineffective the character was when used without mods and at Gear 12, so CG really did us a disservice in loaning us an inadequate character in the unlock event. Boosting his Speed and Potency helps a lot to get more turns and actually land the Frustration debuff, unlike in the event.
